Iran opposes to "American measures" in N. Syria

TEHRAN, Aug 18 (KUNA) -- Iran on Sunday affirmed opposition to recent American measures in northern Syria aimed at carving out a "safe zone." Iranian Foreign Minister spokesman Abbas Musavi said in a statement the American "practices are tantamount to intervention in Syria's internal affairs and blatant violation of its sovereignty." Security issues in the Syrian border regions can be tackled through bilateral agreements with neighbors, with no intervention by foreign powers, he added.
Turkey has declared a US-Turkish accord to establish the zone to be a "safe corridor" for Syrian refugees returning to their homeland. (end) mw.rk
