People arrested, weapons seized in Portland protests

WASHINGTON, Aug 17 (KUNA) -- At least three people were arrested Saturday in Portland, Oregan and weapons were seized as the police "continue efforts to try to keep opposing groups separate" amid rallies and counter-protests being witnessed in the city.
The Portland Police tweeted that at least three arrests were made "related to today's demonstrations." It added in a separate tweet that "officers have seized weapons from multiple groups, including bear spray, shields, and metal and wooden poles." "We believe demonstrators are using info posted by media and observers to find opposing groups. In an effort to keep the various groups apart and maintain everyone's safety, we respectfully ask reporters and others to avoid posting specific locations of protest groups," the police stressed.
It noted that "PPB and our partners are here to protect everyone's safety while facilitating everyone's 1st Amendment right to gather and speak. It is the foundation of our democracy and critical to Portland's identity." Meanwhile, President Donald Trump said in a tweet earlier "major consideration is being given to naming ANTIFA an "ORGANIZATION OF TERROR." Portland is being watched very closely. Hopefully the Mayor will be able to properly do his job!" (end) si
