Terrorist attack targets Saudi oil field, causes minor damages - official

RIYADH, Aug 17 (KUNA) -- A terrorist drone attack targeted Shaybah Oil Field in southeastern the Kingdom, causing minor damages, official media reported Saturday.
The attack did not affect the Kingdom's oil production and imports, Saudi Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources Minister Khalid Al-Falih affirmed in a statement, according to Saudi Press Agency.
The booby-trapped drone hit Shaybah natural gas liquefaction facility, causing a small fire that was extinguished quickly, Al-Falih noted, adding there were no human casualties.
Saudi Arabia strongly condemns such a cowardly attack, and reiterates that such a heinous act of terrorism and vandalism is only a continuation to ones that recently targeted global oil supply chains, including the Kingdom's oil pipelines and tankers at the Arabian Gulf, he said.
Targeting the Kingdom's vital facilities also targets the security of world energy supplies, and is, therefore, a threat to global economy, said the Saudi minister.
He urged the international community to consolidate all efforts toward countering terrorist organizations and elements that carry out such sabotaged acts, including the Iranian-backed Houthi militias.
Earlier, the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, aka Saudi Aramco, announced that its response teams controlled a minor fire at Shaybah NGL facility, adding the incident did not cause injuries.
The state-owned oil company also affirmed, in a press statement, the incident did not affect its crude oil production or caused interruptions to its oil operations, assuring to provide further details as they become available. (end) mdm.ma
