KUWAIT, July 21 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti government is working closely with parliament to find a comprehensive solution to the situation involving the country's illegal residents, in a way that would not "inhibit their national identity rights," said the Gulf state's top lawmaker.
This solution will be set in motion by legislation the parliament seeks to approve in its forthcoming term, or in an emergency session if need be, Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim told the press Sunday.
"The move comes as per the instructions of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah," he said, promising to sort out the issue before the end of summer.
Kuwait's chief lawmaker cited a spate of talks between government officials and MPs as of late, without elaborating further.
He went on to describe national identification and citizenship as a serious matter that has no room for political pressures. (end) fn.ns.nam
