ROME, July 20 (KUNA) -- Dean of NATO Defense College Dean Dr. Stephen J. Mariano has apprised Kuwait's cooperation with the college and partnership with the alliance for serving global security and peace.
Dr. Mariano, speaking to KUNA after graduation of cadets enrolled in the "134 course for high ranks" at the college headquarters in Rome, said Kuwait's participation in the senior strategic studies is of particular significance.
Kuwait partakes in these major courses, held by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, within framework of the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative and Mediterranean Dialogue.
"We are eagerly looking forward" toward the future to bolster the cooperation in face of challenges, to maintain regional and international peace, he said.
The freshly finished course involved 77 participants from 33 states that are members or partners of the alliance.
NATO's Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, launched at the Alliance's Summit in the Turkish city in June 2004, aims to contribute to long-term global and regional security by offering countries of the broader Middle East region practical bilateral security cooperation with NATO.
The Mediterranean Dialogue, first launched in 1994, is a forum of cooperation between NATO and seven countries of the Mediterranean.
The faculty commander, Lieutenant-General Christine (Chris) Whitecross, during the graduation ceremony, distributed certificates to the graduates including Kuwait Army's Colonel Mohammad Jamal.
The ceremony was attended by the Kuwaiti Charge D'affaires, Counsellor Sami Al-Zamanan, Counsellor of the Middle East Department at the college, Colonel Nasser Maarefi, VIPs, ambassadors, diplomats and military officers.
Addressing attendees, Dr. Mariano underscored NATO's Middle East dialogue and partnership to boost cooperation among regional states.
Col. Jamal expressed pride for his participation in the course that would deepen his knowledge of modern strategic and security sciences, planning methods, management of crises and catastrophes and decision-making. (end) mn.rk
