CENTCOM: patrol aircraft monitoring situation within Strait of Hormuz

WASHINGTON, July 19 (KUNA) -- The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Friday that it has patrol aircraft monitoring the situation within the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM said in a statement "We have patrol aircraft operating in international airspace monitoring the situation within the Strait of Hormuz." It added that US Naval Forces Central Command has been in contact with US ships operating in the area to ensure their safety.
Iran earlier today seized a British oil tanker in Strait of Hormuz for allegedly breaching international maritime law.
The vessel, "Stena Impero," is being held for "failing to respect international maritime rules," read a statement by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The US said one of its warships shot down an Iranan drone which came close to the vessel. Tehran denied the claim and said the drone the US said it shot down has landed safely at its airbase after scouting a US warship. (end) si.bs
