German Chancellor urges Iran to abide by nuclear deal

BERLIN, July 19 (KUNA) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday urged the Iranian government to abide by the nuclear deal despite the US withdrawal from it in May last year.
In a press conference, Merkel said that the commitment of her country, France, Britain and the European Union to the agreement signaled the desire of all these parties to maintain this deal and demanded that Iran abide by it.
US withdrawal from the agreement had created a new situation, but it is better if Iran remains committed to it because the other parties, as well as Russia and China, have remained committed to it, she added.
US-Iranian relations have been strained since Washington withdrew from the deal in May last year. (end) anj.aa
