KHARTOUM, July 19 (KUNA) - The Central Committee of Sudan Doctors (CCSD) announced Friday that some 246 people were killed and 353 others injured during the protests that broke out in the country on December 19, 2018.
Meanwhile, CCSD, affiliated with the Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA), decided to end the 200-day nationwide strike, noting around 253 people were wounded since the civilians launched their strike in front of the Transitional Military Council (TMC) headquarters on April 6, while 400 others were injured during the strike, it said in a statement.
TMC) and SPA announced on July 5 a power sharing agreement brokered by Ethiopia and the African Union (AU).
The agreement will last for three years and would lead to elections. However, the deal was not signed due to differences over jurisdictions and immunity.
The agreement calls for formation of a sovereign council consisting of five military officers and five civilians, in addition to an independent civilian member approved by both parties.
TMC and SPA also agreed to set up an independent commission to investigate violent actions since April 11.
However, negotiations collapsed between the two parties when regular forces attacked a sit-in outside the ministry of defense building on June 3. The opposition said the forces killed over 120 people while the government put the number at 61.
The Sudanese army removed long-serving President Omar Al-Bashir on April 11 at culmination of protests that broke out on December 19. (end)
