GCCIA to interconnect with Jordan, Egypt by 2020

AMMAN, July 18 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity and Water undersecretary Mohammad Boushehri said that Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) seeks to interconnect with Jordan and Egypt's networks by the summer of 2020.
Boushehri made his remarks in a statement for KUNA after his meeting with the officials of GCCIA, Jordan and Egypt to discuss ways of executing the project of joint electricity connection.
The undersecretary stressed on the importance of having a link between those countries' networks, and that it has become "an economic and electronic" necessity.
"By interconnecting those networks, those countries will benefit financially, especially in the summer season where electricity costs rise more than usual since we live in a hot region," he said.
During the meeting, the officials discussed ways of enhancing the mechanism of interconnecting the GCCIA with Jordan and Egypt, and to form technical teams to execute the plan precisely.
On his part, CEO of Bahrain Electricity and Water Association Sheikh Nawaf Al-Kahlifa also emphasized the importance of such meetings to increase the chances of accomplishing the wanted goal, which will eventually achieve stability for Arab's electrical systems. (end) mgb.bb
