East Jerusalem .. Palestine's capital, core of its cause -- OIC

JEDDAH, July 17 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has affirmed that East Jerusalem constitutes the core of Palestine's cause.
This came at the conclusion of the executive committee's meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers on Wednesday in Jeddah that discussed the accelerated pace of the Israeli violations in Jerusalem City.
The conferees said a comprehensive and just peace would be achieved only through ending the Israeli occupation of Palestine and establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its eternal capital.
Issuing its final communique, the meeting stressed the importance of implementing all resolutions by relevant OIC exceptional gatherings and conferences as well international decisions.
The gathering voiced its concern over continued attempts aiming to change the historical and legal status of the occupied city of Jerusalem and relocation of diplomatic missions of some foreign states to the city, condemning all these acts.
In addition, the ministers deplored colonial measures taken by Israel occupation authorities in Jerusalem, and attempts to change its demographical structure, according to the communique.
They considered such practices as "null and void", condemning the participation and support of some representatives of the US Administration to the illegal measures made by Israel in Jerusalem.
They denounced the continued Israeli efforts to judaize Jerusalem through allowing some Zionist associations to seize properties in Jerusalem.
The declaration also condemned Israel's policy of ethnic cleansing represented in forced displacement and continued demolition of Palestinian homes, mainly in the city of Jerusalem.
It cautioned against harming the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, the first Muslim Qibla (direction) and the Muslim world's third holiest place of worship, affirming the danger of continued incursions by Israeli officials and settlers of the Mosque.
The meeting called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility, in line with the international law, to put an end to these dangerous measures made by the Israeli occupation authorities, as well as not to recognize the legitimacy of any status caused by these measures and provide any assistance to maintain this status.
It assigned a body to prepare and coordinate to form a delegation to travel to the influential states to convey OIC member state's stance towards Jerusalem and put pressures on Israel.
The meeting called on all world's countries, mainly the US, as well as all international institutions and bodies to be committed to the international legitimacy's resolutions on Jerusalem, which is part and parcel of the occupied Palestinian territories, the communique added.
The conferees, finally, praised steadfastness of Jerusalem's residents in face of all Israeli plans and attempts aiming to judaize Jerusalem, the declaration concluded. (end) nsa.sam.hm
