CAIRO, July 17 (KUNA) -- Saudi Minister of Information Turki Al-Shabanah stressed the importance of the role of Arab media in tackling the phenomenon of terrorism through awareness programs.
This came in a speech delivered by the Saudi minister at the 50th Ordinary Session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers on Wednesday.
He said that the role of the Arab media in combating terrorism is one of the most important items to be discussed by the council, adding that this phenomenon "has had a negative impact on the Arab societies." He stressed that Saudi Arabia "has made every effort to confront the phenomenon of terrorism and cooperate with the relevant international and regional bodies in this regard".
Al-Shabanah urged the media to play a more positive and effective role in supporting Arab issues.
For his part, the Chairman of the 49th session, Algerian Minister of Communication Hassan Ribhi, said that the Council has achieved many achievements during the previous session, which will contribute to the development of Arab media.
In similar speech, Rabhi pointed to a plan adopted by Arab media aimed at addressing the US's decision to recognize Jerusalem as an Israeli capital.
He also referred to the final draft of the Charter of Information Honor and the implementation of the Arab Media Plan for Sustainable Development, adopted by the Arab Summit in Riyadh in April 2018. (end) mfm.haq
