France appoints new env. min.

PARIS, July 17 (KUNA) -- France's Elysee Palace announced Wednesday the appointment of Elisabeth Borne as Environment Minister, replacing Frascois de Rugy, who resigned in the wake of a corruption scandal.
French President Emmanuel Macaron's decision came after consultations with Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, according to a statement by the French presidency.
De Rugy has resigned after an investigation alleged he hosted lavish social dinners.
He handed his resignation to the Prime Minister after; according to him, media attacks on his family forced him to resign.
With the resignation of De Rugy, who has repeatedly confirmed Macaron's support, the French President finds himself in a new dilemma with the 'Yellow Vests'.
During past months, the French President faced a difficult period of protests and resignations that have extended to his close circle of officials, which increased pressure on him and caused his popularity to plummet. (end) mzj.nhq
