KUWAIT, July 11 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Minister of Electricity and Water (MEW) Dr. Khaled Al-Fadhel confirmed on Thursday the ministry is willing to produce enough electricity, covering requirements of the country during the summer.
Dr. Al-Fadhel has underlined in a statement, on sidelines of inaugurating a center for personnel training in residential district of Ghernata, that all power installations have been regularly maintained to prevent any power outage.
Kuwait currently produces about 16,000 megawatts of electricity per day. Average daily consumption during summer is about 14,600 megawatts.
The center opened today in collaboration with Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) for training nationals who serve in the electrical sector, including those who work in designing, construction, maintenance and project management, Al-Fadhel explained.
The specialized center came through Kuwait Offset Program, he said, pointing out the provision of training programs in collaboration with Public Authority for Applied Education and Training is designed to qualify those wishing to join MEW through the Higher Institute of Energy (HIE).
Nationals, especially the youth, have proven competent to carry out tasks assigned to them by state institutions -- guided by political leaders, he added.
When asked about the new system of smart meters' readings, Al-Fadhel has said that it aims to preserve public money by conducting an instantaneous reading of actual consumption.
In turn, Assistant Undersecretary for the Transport Networks Sector at MEW Jassem Al-Nouri said the center aims to teach youngsters how to use technology and boost their knowledge, in preparation to offering them jobs in collaboration with KDIPA and through the Offset Program.
Nouri noted the approach to strengthen the partnership between the ministry and various sectors of the state, intensifying training of over 380 employees from the power sector.
There is a plan to train students at the HIE, which currently hosts 40 trainees who receive theoretical and practical courses by local and foreign experts. (end) msa.lr
