Kuwait's Olympic Cmte' Chairman calls on sports people to work sincerely

KUWAIT, July 5 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Olympic Committee Chairman Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah called on Kuwait's sports people to work hard and sincerely to put Kuwaiti sport on the world map.
In a press statement on Friday, Sheikh Fahad congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah and the sports family in Kuwait on the occasion of the announcement of the IOC to lift the immediate and total suspension of Kuwaiti sport.
Sheikh Fahad thanked all those who worked and contributed to lifting the suspension of the Kuwaiti sport, praising the efforts of the Council of Ministers, the National Assembly, the Public Authority for Sport, the sports associations and the media.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has informed the Kuwait Olympic Committee that the IOC Executive Board made the decision today to lift, fully and with immediate effect, the suspension of the Kuwait Olympic Committee.
The decision was made on the basis of the Kuwait Olympic Committee fulfilling the mutually agreed roadmap for reinstatement.
The final stage of the roadmap was the Kuwait Olympic Committee holding its Elective General Assembly, as it did last week on 30 June 2019.
IOC President Thomas Bach informed the Kuwait Olympic Committee about the news in a letter to the newly elected President of Kuwait Olympic Committee, Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Ahmad Al Sabah.
In his letter, the IOC President extended his sincerest congratulations to Sheikh Fahad on his election as President of the Kuwait Olympic Committee.
The IOC President also assured the new leadership of the Kuwait Olympic Committee that the IOC will be fully at their disposal to support and assist the Kuwait Olympic Committee in performing its mission and daily activities, including the preparation of a successful participation in the Summer Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Reacting to the letter received from IOC President Thomas Bach, Sheikh Fahad said, "on behalf of the Kuwait Olympic Committee, I would like to thank the IOC for their support in helping us to make the necessary changes to re-join the Olympic Family and best serve the Olympic Movement in Kuwait." "I as President, and my Board of Directors, have made it clear that we have a new vison for our future and we are committed to acting in the best interests of Kuwaiti sport and our athletes," he added.
The Kuwait Olympic Committee will now initiate the development of an overall strategy for the organization incl. high-performance and sports participation planning. (end) fr.aa
