KUWAIT, June 23 (KUNA) -- National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim adjourned on Sunday a scheduled session to discuss the government's policy of employment due to lack of quorum and the government's absence.
Al-Ghanim, in a statement last Thursday, said that he did not expect the government to attend the aforementioned session because, according to the government; was not based on prior coordination with the parliament as it was in previous special sessions.
However, Minister of State for Economic Affairs Maryam Al-Aqeel confirmed the government's keenness to cooperate with the parliament and that it is ready to discuss the employment issue again in the next session.
She added that the government is in the process of studying 15 parliamentary recommendations approved on April 17 to address the issue of employment.
According to Article 97 of the Kuwaiti Constitution, for a meeting of the National Assembly to be valid, more than half of its members must be present, while Article 116 stipulates that the Cabinet must be represented in the sittings of the Assembly by the Prime Minister or by some Ministers.
