Iran takes US to UN over drone violation of airspace

TEHRAN, June 20 (KUNA) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi announced that his country had submitted a complaint to the United Nations against the US spy drone's violation of Iranian airspace at Hormuzgan province, south of the country.
In a press statement, Mousavi stated that Iran would use the legal and diplomatic means to avoid the recurrence of such violations.
He has also strongly denounced the US spy drone's intrusion into the Iranian airspace, warning the aggressors about the consequences of such acts.
"While expressing our strong protest at such acts of aggression and provocative moves, we announce that we firmly warn against any aggression and illegal entry into the country's airspace by any foreign flying object, and any aggression against the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran and violation of its frontiers, and the entire responsibility for consequences of such actions fall upon the aggressors," he cautioned.
Earlier on Thursday, the Iranian Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced that its air defense force had shot down an intruding American spy drone in the country's southern coastal province of Hormozgan.
It noted that the US-made Global Hawk surveillance drone was brought down by its Air Force near the Kouh-e Mobarak region - which sits in the central district of Jask County - after the aircraft violated Iranian airspace.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump told the press that Iran have committed a terrible mistake by taking down the US drone, which was in an international airspace. (end) mw.mys
