Houthi missile crashes into populated Yemeni region -- coalition

RIYADH, June 20 (KUNA) -- Houthi militia have fired a ballistic missile that crashed into the Yemeni Governorate of Amran, the official spokesman of the Coalition Forces for Backing the Legitimacy announced on Thursday.
Col. Turki Al-Malki said in a statement that the coalition reconnaissance network monitored the ballistic missile when it was unleashed from compound of Sanaa University at 6:43 a.m. (03:43 GMT) today.
"The terrorist Houthi militia fired the missile in the direction of an area populated by Yemeni citizens in the Yemeni territories," he said, adding that it crashed on a farming Houthi-controlled region in Amran.
He described the "targeting of the inhabited region" as a war crime and explicit breach of the international humanitarian law.
Earlier today, the Arab Coalition said a missile launched by the militias had landed on Wednesday night near a Saudi desalination plant in Shuqaiq, causing no casualties or damage.
Col. Al-Maliki said in a statement that the security forces were working to determine what type of missile had been used.
The attack constitutes a war crime for targeting civilian facilities, and shows that Iran is supplying the insurgents with new weapons, Al-Maliki said.
The Houthis continue to use Hodeidah Port to smuggle arms and destabilize the region and the world. (end) mdm.ss.rk
