Malaysia rejects Russia's involvement in Flight MH17 downing

KUALA LAMPUR, June 20 (KUNA) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Thursday rejected the implication that Russia may have been involved in the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 over Ukraine in 2014.
"We are very unhappy because, from the very beginning, it has become a political issue on how to accuse Russia of the wrongdoing," the Malaysian Prime Minister told reporters.
Mahathir pointed out that Malaysia is not convinced of the results and is demanding investigators to provide evidence that the Russians are behind the downing of the plane.
In a statement, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said, "Malaysia appreciates the illustration made by the joint investigation team, adding that all of these conclusions should be based on evidence and not political motivates." The Joint Investigation Commission, headed by the Netherlands, yesterday accused three Russians, Igor Guerkin, Sergey Dobinski, Oleg Bulatov and Ukrainian Leonid Kharchenko.
According to the investigators, the four accused men are with military or intelligence backgrounds. (end) aab.aa
