CAIRO, June 19 (KUNA) - Tanzanian Minister for Foreign Affairs and East Africa Cooperation Palamagamba Kabudi stressed on Wednesday his country's support the efforts of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in resolving the Gulf crisis.
Kuwaiti Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan, currently on an Afircan tour, quoted Kabudi as hailing the role of His Highness the Amir in resolving the Gulf crisis.
The Tanzanian minister pointed to the historical relations between Kuwait and his country, which extend back to pre-oil discovery times when the Kuwaiti sailors came to the coast of Tanzania and Zanzibar for trade.
For his part, Ambassador Al-Mashaan affirmed that Kuwait stands with Tanzania for development, noting its role in the Security Council and adoption of African issues.
The Ambassador also underlined Kuwait's foreign policy, which is based on five points and is applied during its "presence in the Security Council," namely respect for the sovereignty of states, maintaining good neighborliness, adherence to the rules of international law and strengthening international peace and security.
Al-Mashaan pointed to the projects carried out by Kuwait' Fund for Arab Economic Development in Tanzania and the 14 projects covering several sectors and the value of loans provided to them is USD 248 million.
Ambassador Al-Mashaan called on the Tanzanian side to support Kuwait in its candidatures with international organizations, including the membership of the Standing Committee of the Red Crescent and the Red Cross (Geneva - October 2019), membership of the Postal Investment Council (Ivory Coast 2020) and membership of the IMO Board of Directors for the period 2020-2021.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries began in 1983 and were inaugurated at the opening of the Tanzanian embassy in Kuwait in 2015, the same year that the Kuwaiti embassy in Tanzania opened after it was referred to the Kuwaiti embassy in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.
The visit of Ambassador Al-Mashaan to Tanzania comes within the framework of activating the memorandum of political consultations signed between the two countries and comes within the scope of a tour that includes a number of African countries. (end) msh.aa
