US "very prepared" for Iran - Trump

WASHINGTON, June 18 (KUNA) -- President Donald Trump said Tuesday the United States has "a lot of things going with Iran" amid mounting tensions between both countries.
"We're looking at Iran -- We're very prepared for Iran. We'll see what happens. Let me just say this, we are very prepared," he told reporters before heading to Orlando, Florida, to kick off his 2020 election campaign.
Trump added that he discussed the threats posed by Iran with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and military top brass at the US Central Command (CENTCOM) in Tampa, Florida, earlier today.
Meanwhile, Pompeo affirmed, in a tweet, that the US does not want Iran to get a nuclear weapon. "We withdrew from the (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) JCPOA and are moving ourselves towards a set of policies which will convince Iran to behave like a normal nation," he wrote.
Washington, which accused Tehran of perpetrating the last week attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman and attempting to accelerate its nuclear program, sent 1,000 additional troops to the Middle East. (end) rsr.gb
