Kenya affirms support to Kuwait's nominations to join int'l orgs

CAIRO, June 17 (KUNA) -- Kenyan Assistant Foreign Minister for political affairs Ambassador Tom Amolo affirmed on Monday his country's readiness to support Kuwait and its nominations in international organizations' memberships.
The remarks were made during the second political consultation meeting in Kenya between Ambassador Amolo, and Kuwait Assistant Foreign Minister for Africa Affairs Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan who was accompanied by Kuwait's Ambassador to Kenya Qusay Al-Farhan.
Amolo said that his country is ready to support Kuwait and its nominations to join international organizations, namely the nomination of Kuwait Red Crescent Society chairman, Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer, to the International Committee of the Red Cross in a meeting to be held in Geneva next October.
The Kenyan diplomat also expressed his country's readiness to support Kuwait's candidacy for the Postal Investment Council during the 27th International Postal Union (Ivory Coast 2020) Conference and its membership in the IMO Board of Directors for the period 2020-21, which will be held in London in November.
For his part, Ambassador Al-Mashaan expressed his sincere appreciation to the government of Kenya for its support, especially during the brutal Iraqi invasion in 1990, in addition to supporting all international resolutions pertaining to Kuwait.
Al-Mashaan reviewed the role played by Kuwait during its membership in the Security Council and discussed Kenya's candidacy for non-permament membership seat of the Council (2020-21), representing the African continent.
He referred to the important role played by Kenya in the field of maintaining international peace and security, especially in the African continent, namely in Somalia and Sudan.
The meeting delved into means of enhancing cooperation and bilateral relations between the two countries in the political, economic and cultural fields.
Al-Mashaan's visit to Kenya comes within the framework of activating the memorandum of political consultations signed between the two countries.
Kuwait was one of the first countries in the Middle East to recognize Kenya after independence.
The Kuwaiti embassy was opened in Nairobi in 1966. (end) ms.mb
