Caputova inaugurated as Slovakia's first female president

VIENNA, June 15 (KUNA) -- Zuzana Caputova was sworn in on Saturday as the first female, and youngest, president in the modern history of Slovakia after winning the presidential elections of March.
In her address to lawmakers at the inauguration ceremony in the capital city of Bratislava, Caputova pledged to fight corruption and make the judicial system work for everybody.
Noting that the feeling of injustice as grown recently in her country, she said she came to serve all citizens in Slovakia, not to rule them.
She affirmed that the state officials had only two options; to either stand up to corruption or lose their jobs.
Meanwhile, the presidential office announced that Caputova's first trip abroad would be to Prague - the capital city of the Czech Republic, this Thursday.
Caputova, 45, is a veteran lawyer and environment activist who was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2016.
As candidate of the Progressive Slovakia Party, she won the presidential elections by 58.4 percent of the vote in the run-off on March 30, with a comfortable lead against her rival Maros Sefcovic, of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, who got 41.6 percent.
Caputova is replacing outgoing president Andrej Kiska. (end) mah.gb
