German FM to visit Iran soon for nuclear deal

BAGHDAD, June 8 (KUNA) -- Visiting German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Saturday that he intends to visit Tehran in the coming days to urge the Iranian government to continue its commitment to the nuclear agreement.
This was announced during a meeting between Maas and Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, a statement by the Iraqi government said.
Germany and Europe are committed to the nuclear agreement, and they set a plan to ease economic sanctions and facilitate financial transactions with Iran, the statement quoted the minister as saying. He expressed his country's concern over the situation in the region, saying Germany is interested in maintaining stability in the region, it noted.
He pointed to the key role of Iraq amid regional developments and the ongoing US-Iranian crises. Meanwhile, Abdul-Mahdi said Baghdad supports efforts, which serve the stability in the region and the entire world.
He added Iraq works with the European Union, and sends delegations to Tehran, Washington and Europe for this matter.
Maas left Baghdad after his meetings with Abdul-Madhi and then Iraqi President Barham Salih. (end) ahh.hm
