PARIS, June 6 (KUNA) -- French Justice Minister Nicole Belloubet said on Thursday that she discussed with some European ministers the "supposition" of establishing an international court for foreign jihadists who joined the so-called Islamic State (IS) militants.
In a statement to Radio Monte Carlo (RMC), she added the notion was discussed with some European interior and justice ministers.
The court is likely to be based in Iraq, with the participation of some European, French and Iraqi judges, she noted.
She pointed to a number of "difficulties" pertaining this matter like the approval of Iraq and the prohibition of the death penalty.
She affirmed that the establishment of such courts always takes a fairly long time.
Regarding the French citizens who were sentenced to death in Iraq, she said there has been ongoing discussions with the Iraqi competent authorities to stop this penalty.
Iraq's Central Criminal Court sentenced 11 French citizens to death on charges of joining the IS militants. (end)
