Qatar calls for open dialogue among Sudanese parties involved

DOHA, June 3 (KUNA) -- Qatar called on Monday to enable the voice of wisdom and urgently be involved in "an open, honest and inclusive dialogue for all segments of Sudanese society." "Qatar appeals to the Transitional Military Council to stop practices by the security forces against defenseless demonstrators," Qatar's foreign ministry said in a statement.
"Qatar is following with grave concern recent developments in Sudan," the statement added, expressing its regret over the decision to break up the sit-in by force.
According to Freedom and Change parties earlier in the day, "an attack was carried out by Sudanese forces on the scene of the sit-in." Earlier, the Transitional Military Council has declared, "the sit-in has become unsafe and poses a threat to the revolution and revolutionaries and a threat to the cohesion of the state and its national security." According to media reports, at least eight people were killed in attacks on demonstrators who gathered in front of military headquarters in the capital Khartoum.
The Transitional Military Council has been in power in Sudan since the ouster of President Omar Al-Bashir in a coup last April. (end) nnd.mb
