Austria's interim gov't sworn in

VIENNA, May 22 (KUNA) -- Members of transition government in Austria sworn in on Wednesday after all ministers of the far-right Freedom Party (FPO) were dismissed over the political and moral scandal involving Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache.
This came after Chancellor Sebastian Kurz dismissed ministers of interior, defense, transportation, infrastructure, health and social affairs after the leader of the Freedom Party, Strache, was involved in the scandal that shook Austria.
The new transitional government, headed by Kurtz, will hold its first meeting this evening and Kurtz will deliver a speech on the occasion that seeks to calm the political atmosphere.
The scandal broke last Friday when footage from 2017 was published in German media, showing Strache and another FPO official proposing to offer government contracts in exchange for political support. (end) amq.haq
