Saudi Arabia calls for urgent Gulf, Arab summits

JEDDAH, May 18 (KUNA) -- Saudi Arabia has called for two urgent Gulf Arab and Arab summits in Makkah on May 30 to discuss the regional repercussions of recent attacks on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The talks have been urged "due to King Salman bin Abdulaziz' keenness for discussion and coordination between Gulf Cooperation Council and Arab League nations, on means to boost security and stability in the region," a Foreign Ministry said.
The meetings will come "in the wake of the attack on commercial ships in the territorial waters of the United Arab Emirates," added the source, in a statement carried by the Saudi state news agency.
The summits will be held on the fringes of an Organisation of Islamic Conference summit, scheduled a day later in Saudi Arabia.
At these talks, Islamic leaders are set to address the Iran-backed Houthi group's rocket attack on oil installations in Saudi Arabia and its impacts on regional and international security and global oil market stability. (end) nsa.sd
