Senior police officer killed in PKK attack SE Turkey

ISTANBUL, May 18 (KUNA) -- Deputy police chief of Sanliurfa province, southeast Turkey, was martyred and other police officers were wounded in a terrorist attack by the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) on Saturday.
The attack coincided with joint a police-military operation in the region where two PKK terrorists were neutralized, Anadolu Agency reported, citing local security sources.
Turkish authorities often use the word "neutralize" in their statements to imply that the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured. The PKK - designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU - has been responsible for some 40,000 deaths, including women and children during its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey.
