Iraq welcomes Oman's request to reopen embassy in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, May 10 (KUNA) -- Iraq Friday Oman's request to reopen its embassy in Baghdad, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammad Al-Hakim received a letter from his Omani counterpart Yusuf bin Alawi who said Muscat planned to reopened its embassy in Baghdad and resumed full diplomatic activities, the ministry added.
This step, it said, reflected keenness of Oman to deepen relations between the two countries.
Iraq believes Oman's decision to reopen its embassy a "positive development" that would contribute to the common Arab action.
"We warmly welcome the arrival of the (Omani) brothers to work alongside Arab and Western diplomats ... welcome to Baghdad," Al-Hakim said in his Twitter account.
Oman closed its embassy in Baghdad in August 1990 immediately following Iraq's invasion and occupation of the State of Kuwait. (end) ahh.bs
