Arab League: Targeting civilians, violating int'l law unacceptable

CAIRO, May 10 (KUNA) -- The Arab League stressed on Friday that any efforts to combat terrorism must be consistent with the successive resolutions issued by the League of Arab States in this regard, stressing that targeting civilians or violating international law is "unacceptable and condemned, and does not bring peace to Syria." Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit said in a statement that confronting terrorist groups among large numbers of civilians, such as in northern Hama and Idlib, should take into account the high human cost of military strikes, especially the use of aviation.
He said he was following with concern the humanitarian consequences of the military operations in northwestern Syria since the end of last month, which has intensified dramatically during the last two days and the civilian casualties, as well as the destruction of a number of civilian facilities such as hospitals and schools.(end).
