Nearly 250,000 Yemenis suffer from cholera -- WHO

ADEN, April 25 (KUNA) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) reported 517 fatalities from cholera and as many as 249,551 infection cases in Yemen since the beginning of 2019.
A sharp spike in the outbreak of the deadly disease has been registered between March and April 23 with the infection cases rising by 240 percent in this period, according to a survey released by WHO Office in the country on Thursday.
The capital city of Sanaa and surrounding areas are the most hit, accounting to 76,000 infection cases and 104 fatalities. The governorates of Hudaydah, Ibb and Amran came next.
Regarding the age categories, people over 60 represented 49 percent of the fatalities followed by children bellow 5 who accounted for 16 percent, the survey showed. (end) sns.gb
