Second Kuwaiti athlete qualifies for World Athletic Championship

DOHA, April 24 (KUNA) -- Athlete Ya'qoub Al-Yuha has booked the second berth for Kuwait at the upcoming World Athletic Championship after winning a sliver medal of 110 m. hurdle race at the 23rd Asian Athletics Championships in Doha Wednesday.
Al-Yuha and compatriot Yousef Karam who bagged the gold medal of the Asian 400m men race were qualified for the World Athletic Championship to be held next September and October Doha thanks to their high records, Secretary of the Kuwait Association of Athletic Federation Sayar Al-Enezi told KUNA after the conclusion of the four-day Asian event today.
Al-Yuha has set a new personal, national and Gulf record by finishing the race in 13.35 seconds and Karam has set his best personal record after ending 400m men race in 44.84 seconds.
Al-Enezi hailed Kuwaiti athletes wining of four medals at the 23rd Asian Athletics Championships: one gold and three silver.
In addition to Al-Yuha and Karam, Kuwaiti athlete Ibrahim Al-Dhefeeri and decathlete Majid Al-Zaid attained two silver medals in the 800m men race and decathlon competition.
He also congratulated the winning athletes and all Kuwaiti sports people on the successes.
These achievements would not have been possible without the unlimited support of the Public Authority for Sport Director General Dr. Hamoud Fleitah and his deputy Dr. Saqr Al-Mulla, he told KUNA.
He pointed out that the Kuwait Association of Athletic Federation, with full support of the Public Authority for Sport, will set a rich program for all athletes who won medals in the Asian tournament to improve their records in the coming competitions.
The Asian Athletics Championships are the pinnacle of IAAF track-and-field competitions in the world's biggest continent.
The 2019 Asian Athletics Championships brought together nearly 800 athletes and up to 450 officials from 45 countries at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha from 21-24 April 2019.
The tournament serves as the test event for the 2019 athletics World Championships, due at the same venue between September 28 and October 6. (Pick up previous) nnd.ibi
