African Troika urges immediate halt to hostilities in Libya

CAIRO, April 23 (KUNA) -- The Cairo-hosted African Troika summit on Libya has called for an immediate and unconditional end to hostilities in the war-torn North African country.
The AU Troika consists of leaders of Egypt, current chair of the African Union; South Africa, incoming Chair; and Rwanda, outgoing Chair.
The meeting was also attended by Congolese President in his capacity as the chairman of Libya committee at the AU and AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Mahamat Faki.
In their final statement, the African leaders urged Libyan warring parties to show self-restrain and ensure safety of civilians.
They demanded all parties to guarantee safe, unimpeded and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to all Libyan regions.
They called for intensifying collaborations between the UN mission to Libya and AU to resolve the eight-year conflict.
They urged the international community to bear responsibility to help stop the flow of weapons, fighters and terrorists and to counter human trafficking, illegal migrations and external interferences in Libya.
They stressed the necessity of enabling Libya's national army and police to perform their role in maintaining the safety and stability of the country through eradicating militias, terrorist groups and limiting the possession of weapons to the army and police forces. (end) esm.ibi
