Sudanese opposition suspends cooperation with military council

KHARTOUM, April 21 (KUNA) -- The Declaration of Freedom and Change announced Sunday suspension of cooperation with the Transitional Military Council's political committee.
The coalition of opposition parties indicated, while addressing protesters at the sit-in square, the presence of former regime's members in the political committee prompted them to suspend their cooperation and keep up resisting the military council.
The Transitional Military Council's political committee has posed as a main communication channel between opposition parties and the council.
The Declaration of Freedom and Change parties were the main forces behind toppling President Omar Al-Bashir on April 11 after anti-government protests erupted in December 2018.
The Sudanese Professionals' Association calls for handing over power to a civilian government with broad powers and taking part in the sovereign council.
It also demands preserving the "gains of the revolution," eradicating corruption, and addressing the economic crisis aggravated over the final years of Al-Bashir's ruling era.
Meanwhile, public anti-government protests continue in Sudan until the military council delivers power to a civil leadership before holding elections. (end) mam.ma
