KUWAIT, April 21 (KUNA) -- Information Minister Mohammad Al-Jabri said Sunday Kuwait realized importance of media in addressing numerous challenges "facing our countries and youth." Al-Jabri, also Minister of State for Yout, was addressing the opening session of Arab Media Forum held under patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
He said Arab Media Forum was launched in 2003 under auspices of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, when he was First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister "which reflected Kuwait leadership's keenness on media." Al-Jabri thanked organizers for selecting Oman as guest of honor as well as inviting 150 Arab youth to participate in the forum's sessions.
He said government and private media should contribute to development of media industry through training of journalists.
Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Communications and Media Bader Al-Deen Al-Alali said journalists were carrying out a very important role in "this critical phase of history of the Arab nation," citing regional conflicts.
Arab Media Forum Secretary General Madhi Al-Khamees said participants would be discussing media industry and how it was affecting daily life.
Oman's Minister of Information Abdulmunem Al-Hosni, who thanked Kuwait for the invitation, said modern technology was a challenge to the traditional media. (pickup previous) hjb.mrv.bs
