Kuwaiti athlete qualifies for World Athletic Championships

DOHA, April 21 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti runner Yousef Karam has booked a seat in the upcoming IAAF World Athletic Championships in Doha next September.
Karam's dream came true after ending 400m men race in the Asian Athletic Championship in Doha in 45.04 seconds, his personal best record, which also qualified him to the final of the tournament.
Compatriot Ibrahim Al-Dhefeeri also qualified for the final round today after coming first in the 800m men race in the Asian Athletic championship completing in 1.50.25 minutes.
Meanwhile, promising national runner Fawaz Al-Farhan missed the final despite his splendid performance and registering his personal best record in 800m men race.
In a statement to KUNA, Secretary of the Kuwait Association of Athletic Federation Sayar Al-Enezi expressed pleasure of Karam's qualification for the world championship.
He expected that the achievement would encourage greater performance from Karam and his fellow athletes.
Al-Enezi announced that President of the Kuwait Association of Athletic Federation Mohammad Khalfan had been elected a vice president of the Asian Athletics Association in an election held on sidelines of the Asian Athletics Championship in Doha.
He also noted that the Asian Athletics Association had honored Kuwaiti coach Bader Dashti as Asia's coach of the year.
Asian Athletics Championships are the pinnacle of IAAF track-and-field competitions in the world's biggest continent.
Bringing together nearly 800 athletes and up to 450 officials from 45 countries, the 23rd Asian Athletics Championships features takes place in the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha from 21-24 April 2019.
The biennial event takes place under the umbrella of the Asian Athletics Association (AAA), the governing body of athletics in Asia. (end) nnd.ibi
