Second round of presidential election starts in Ukraine

MOSCOW, April 21 (KUNA) -- Ukrainians are heading to the polls on Sunday to vote in the second round of the presidential elections.
Comedian Volodymyr Zelensky, who was nominated by the Servant of the People Party, and incumbent President Petro Poroshenko will compete in the runoff.
During the first round on March 31, some 30.24 percent of voters voted for Zelensky, while Poroshenko was backed by 15.95 percent.
Moscow will be keeping a close eye on the elections' results, due to its reflection on standing issues between the two countries.
However, Ukraine's Central Election Commission invited a number of international supervisors, while excluding Russian ones.
Moreover, Ukraine refused to open any central commissions in Russia despite the fact of the existence of a significant numbers of Ukrainians there.
Ukrainian authorities took all possible safety precautions in order to prevent any violence during the presidential polls. (end) as.haq
