Saudi Arabia voices support to Sudanese people, Military Council

RIYADH, April 13 (KUNA) -- Saudi Arabia said Saturday it supported the Sudanese people to determine their own future, as well as measures by the transitional Military Council for the interest of citizens.
Riyadh "declares its support for steps announced by the Council in preserving the lives and property, and stands by the Sudanese people, and hopes that this will achieve security and stability for Sudan," official Saudi Press Agency quoted an official statement as saying.
It called on the Sudanese people to give priority to the national interest in order to achieve their aspirations and hope for development and prosperity.
It added King Salman bin Abdulaziz instructed dispatch of humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people including petroleum products, wheat and medicine.
On Thursday, Sudan's military deposed President Omar Al-Bashir, who has ruled Sudan since 1989, following months of popular protests against his rule. The military formed a council to run affairs of the country on a transitional basis and vowed to meet demands of protesters. (end) mdm.bs
