Arab League says keen to mediate Sudan reconciliation if need be

CAIRO, April 12 (KUNA) -- The Arab League said on Friday it would maintain its dedicated efforts to push forward peace, stability and development in Sudan adding it was following closely political transition developments there.
In a statement, the 22-nation organisation expressed its hope for "consensus" and "necessary rationality" under current circumstances, it described as "delicate," for the benefit of the country.
The Cairo-based body said it stood ready to offer mediation for any eventual reconciliatory efforts as it has previously done in other instances.
This comes a day after the military removed Omar Al-Bashir from his role as president, placing him under arrest, and announcing martial law.
The embattled ex-president, who had been in power for nearly 30 years, had been facing fierce popular opposition marked by widespread angry protests across the country. (end) mfm.sd
