NEW YORK, April 9 (KUNA) -- Kuwait reiterated its commitment to the UN Program of Action on small arms and its International Tracing Instrument.
This came in a speech by Kuwait's First Secretary Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to the UN at the "Arria-Formula" meeting on Western Balkans Small Arms.
"Small arms and light weapons and their ammunition are the main causes of destabilization, exacerbation of regional tensions and the expansion of terrorist and criminal networks," Al-Sabah said.
He expressed grave concern over the matter, which posed a threat to regional and international peace, security and stability.
The Kuwaiti senior diplomat pointed to a series of measures taken by the international community to address this problem, including Security Council resolutions 2117 (2013) and 2220 (2015).
He stressed that the problem could be eliminated only through a multifaceted approach to address its root causes. (end) asf.haq
