Kuwaiti official highlights sports dimension of intellectual property

KUWAIT, April 8 (KUNA) -- Efforts to promote sporting excellence prove beneficial for the national economy and local athletics bodies, said a Kuwaiti official on Monday.
The chief of the Kuwaiti Society for the Protection of Intellectual Rights Sheikh Salman Dawood Al-Sabah's remarks come ahead of "World Intellectual Property Day" on April 26.
The day is recognized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to learn about the role that intellectual property rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity in various fields, including sports, the Kuwaiti official said.
This year's celebration will focus more on the sports aspect of intellectual property rights, he revealed, saying Kuwait is looking forward to participate given its support for its athletes.
A self-funding UN agency with 191 member states, WIPO is the global forum for intellectual property services, policy, information and cooperation.
It aims to lead the development of a balanced and effective international intellectual property system that enables innovation and creativity. (end) fz.nam
