KUWAIT, April 7 (KUNA) -- France has bestowed upon a prominent Kuwaiti women's rights activist one of its most prestigious state orders to acknowledge her outstanding work and commitment towards gender parity.
In a statement on Sunday, Lulwa Al-Qatami thanked French president Emmanuel Macron and Paris' Ambassador to Kuwait Marie Masdupuy for adorning her with the, "Order of the French Chorus of Honor," expressing her elation over the accolade.
She spoke of her personal affinity for the French language, in addition to what she described as an affection for France's sprawling capital city of Paris, having been the first "Francophonic" Kuwaiti woman.
As one of the founding members of the Kuwaiti Women's Cultural and Social Society, Al-Qatami has worked tirelessly over the last 35 years to put women on equal footing with their male counterparts.
"Today is a historic day as we honor a friend who has done a lot of work to promote women's rights in Kuwait," said the French envoy. (end) shd.nam
