US, China to continue trade talks this week

WASHINGTON, March 23 (KUNA) -- US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin will travel to Beijing at the direction of President Donald Trump for principal-level meetings starting on March 28.
The meetings are "to continue negotiations aimed at improving the trade relationship" between the two countries, the White House said in a statement on Saturday.
The US "looks forward to welcoming a delegation from China led by Vice Premier Liu He for meetings in Washington starting on April 3," according to the statement.
On Wednesday, Trump said that US tariffs on Chinese goods will remain for "a substantial period of time because we have to make sure that if we do the deal with China that China lives by the deal." (end) si.gb
