CAIRO, March 14 (KUNA) -- The Republic of Mali on Thursday commended the role played by Kuwait as a non-permanent member of the Security Council and adopting issues that would establish peace and security in the African continent.
These topics were discussed during a meeting that consisted of Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for Africa, Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan, who was on a visit to Mali's capital, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Mali Mohammed Maiga, Mali's Director of the Middle East Department of Finance Mohamedoun Kiminta, Ambassador of Kuwait to Ghana and non-resident Envoy to Mali Mohammed Al-Failakawi and a Kuwaiti delegation accompanying Al-Mashaan in his mission in the African country.
Maiga admired Kuwait's important role in restoring security and peace in the African continent. He also underlined support for Kuwait's nomination to be a member in many international councils, saying that these nominations would be "appreciated and respected" by the Malian government.
Ambassador Al-Mashaan stressed on enhancing cooperation at international quarters on issues of common concerns and pursuing the establishment of security and peace in Africa.
From a financial perspective, Kuwait has been supporting the UN Economic and Social Council, UN Development Programme, the UN Population Fund, and the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
The two sides discussed 13 projects, executed by Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), in Mali, worth USD 200 million, as well as renovating a hospital in Timbuktu city.
The Kuwaiti fund will sign a contract with Mali in September to execute the project of a fourth bridge on the Niger River, he said.
Diplomatic relations between Kuwait and the Republic of Mali began in 1963. (end) ms.lr
