Turkey, UAE, Oman suspend Boeing 737 MAX flights after deadly crash

KUWAIT, March 12 (KUNA) -- Airport authorities in Turkey, UAE and Oman will suspend all Boeing 737 MAX aircraft flights as of Wednesday, citing safety concerns after the model was involved in a crash that killed 157 passengers.
Turkish Airlines said the decision, which includes its 12-fleet Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 9s, will remain until the "uncertainty over the safety situation is clear," CEO Bilal Aksi said on twitter.
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority also cited safety concerns and the need to reassess the situation further information is revealed about the crash.
An Ethiopian Airlines flight, involving the model, crashed on Sunday leaving 157 passengers dead.
It follows a Lion Air crash in Indonesia that killed 189 people some five months ago.
On Tuesday, dozens of countries grounded the aircraft or banned it from entering their airspace over safety concerns.
They await an ongoing investigation into the causes of the most recent crash, and the possibility that the incident may be due to a malfunction in the model. (end) kt.sd
