NEW YORK, March 12 (KUNA) -- Kuwait expressed confidence in the international and regional groups involved in the Afghanistan peace process, including the important role of the United States special representative for reconciliation in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad with his negotiations to contribute to unity and achieve national reconciliation with all Afghan parties, said a top Kuwaiti diplomat late Monday.
This came during a speech, delivered by Kuwait's Permanent Representative at the United Nations Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi, to a UNSC session on the Afghanistan situation.
Al-Otaibi said that Afghanistan is undergoing in a delicate transition period between parliamentary elections last October and the upcoming presidential election in July 20, which he hoped to have further consolidate relations among the parties and reduce tension He pointed out that Kuwait followed with concern the continued assertion of the General Secretary's report on the instability of the security situation in Afghanistan between the government and the hostile forces in most parts of the country which in 2018 recorded more than 22,000 security incident.
He called on all society sectors and neighboring countries to have a sincere political desire and support efforts to achieve lasting peace. (end) asf.gaa
