The award ceremony of the Second Mentor Arabia Short Movie Competition
KUWAIT, March 9 (KUNA) -- Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information for Media Planning and Knowledge Development Affairs said Saturday the combat against narcotics depends primarily on promotion of public awareness about the risks of this menace.
The youth-oriented short movies, circulated on traditional of new media, have to focus on the health hazards posed by smoking and drug addiction, Khaled Al-Rashidi said at the award ceremony of the Second Mentor Arabia Short Movie Competition.
He was speaking on behalf of Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mohammad Al-Jabri at the state of Kuwait National Library.
The competition, part of Kuwait National Youth Project, was held under the theme of "Awareness against Risky Behaviors and Drugs."
Al-Rashidi renewed the support of the Ministry of Information to noble message entailed in the innovative works of art that participated in the competition, saying that these movies would be screened on Kuwait TV channels.
Regarding the awards, 'Sulalah' (strain) - a documentary directed by Maha Moussa, of Palestine, won the top prize.
In the promotional tier, No Smoking, directed by Jordan's Heba Najjar, won the top award.
In the feature film tier, 'Lait,' directed by Asil Sawb, of Jordan, won the top award.
In the Kuwaiti film tier, 'Hajar Ala Al-Tariq (stone on the road), directed by Mohamad Al-Baloushi won the top award.
Launched in 2017, Mentor Arabia Short Movie Competition is a regional initiative aiming to encourage the Arab filmmakers to produce substantive movies that could educate the youngsters against risky behaviors. (end)
