Chelsea Manning jailed for refusing to testify in WikiLeaks case

WASHINGTON, March 8 (KUNA) -- Former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning was jailed on Friday for refusing to testify before a grand jury about WikiLeaks, according to reports.
Manning will be held in jail until she testifies or if the grand jury no longer operates.
"I've found you in contempt," Judge Claude Hilton said. "Either until you purge yourself or the end of the life of the grand jury." The reason why Manning was called to testify remains secret.
Manning previously served seven years of a 35 prison sentence for leaking to the anti-secrecy website before receiving a commutation from former President Barack Obama. She was sentenced for sharing a classified document with WikiLeaks in 2010.
"These secret proceedings tend to favor the government. I'm always willing to explain things publicly," Manning said outside the courthouse before the hearing. (end) ak.ibi
