DOHA, March 8 (KUNA) -- Head of Kuwait's Al-Farsi Kite Team Abdulrahman Al-Farsi said on Friday that the team is eager to be Kuwait's representatives in events, highlighting Kuwait's enhancement of hobbies and spreading the culture of volunteerism.
Kites are one of the most popular sports, Al-Farsi told KUNA, on the sidelines of his participation in the third Aspire International Kite Festival in Qatar.
Al-Farsi team, also affiliated with Kuwait Voluntary Work Center (KVWC), contributed in several festivals and tournaments in this area and globally to obtain great achievements, he added.
The team aims to spread the culture of volunteerism in Kuwait and the GCC countries, he said, pointing out that the team uses models of his paper airplanes in designs that reflect the Kuwaiti environment, drawing a painting on the history of Kuwait.
In 2002, the team was recognized by Peter Lynn from New Zealand, who has great expertise on flying kites, the team have been staying up-to-date on the global development of kite flying in Kuwait.
In one year the team developed kites designed as the Kuwaiti flag, which was 60-1000 square meters, as documented in the 2004 Guinness World Record, still holding the record he noted.
The Kuwaiti team was able to achieve new records the size of 1650 square meters, he added.
The 2019 Aspire International Kite Festival kicked off last Wednesday lasting four days, was attended by 80 professional kite flyers representing 18 teams from 20 Arab and other countries.
Al-Farsi Kite Team also includes Mohammed Al-Farsi, Mubarak Bumarzouq, Mohammed Al-Musawi and Saud Al-Ghareeb. (end) nnd.lr
