Egyptian police kill 7 gunmen in two incidents

CAIRO, Feb 7 (KUNA) -- Police officers on Thursday exchanged gunfire with "terrorists" in Giza killing seven of the gunmen, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.
The gunmen belonging to "Hasm Group," an offshoot faction of the "terrorist Brotherhood" organization, planned to plant a bomb in Giza. They were in a car and some disguised as electricity workers when the security personnel encountered them.
The gunmen opened fire in direction of the personnel the instant they approached the vehicle, prompting the officers to return the fire. One officer and three of the car occupants were killed in the gunfight.
In another incident, the policemen exchanged gunfire with gunmen hiding in an apartment building. The firefight resulted in killing four of the armed men.
The official statement said the two incidents had taken place after Brotherhood leaders called for creating chias in the nation. (end) rg.rk
